The Holidays Drove us to Drinking

The bottle looks suspicious, doesn't it?
It's not very often I find myself the owner of something that could make my sister jealous of me, but I think I just may have pulled it off! It was Jen who originally turned us on to Starbuck's (non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated, non-postum'd) Carmel Apple Spice. So the deal with C.A.S. is that it's the most delicious drink on the planet, you can get it only at Starbucks, and it's available only during "red cup" days (which basically means Thanksgiving to Christmas, I think). The workaround to such scarcity is to have a co-worker with a daughter who is engaged to a friend of a sister of a Starbuck's barrista who can smuggle you a liter of the super-secret Cinnamon Dolce sauce. A splash of this nectar in a mug of hot apple juice with some carmel-drizzled whipped cream on top is the tastiest thing I've tried. We'll be serving up C.A.S. all this winter and most of the next-----so neener, Jen!

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but the Kennedys burst the Carmel Apple Cider secret wide open about five years ago after about a thousand trips to Starbuck's and kissing up to more baristas than we'd care to admit. A little pressure and they spilled their guts - Tree Top Three Apple Blend juice, Starbuck's cinnamon flavoring, etc. If I could choose any way to die, I would go with that candy-in-a-cup goodness pressed to my lips. (Oh, and though it's not on the menu board, they can make it for you year-round. Just ask!)

I enjoyed it my C.A.S. more when it was exclusive.

"Neener"? Did you just say "neerer" to me? Hey! Don't make me hop in my car, drive to Bakersfield and have..... a grande with extra caramel (to go, please.)
