A Health Nut’s Dilemma

Recently David, our three year old, has become very health conscious. We can’t figure out how it all started. His preschool teachers told us that he scrutinizes every snack asking “Is this heal-phy?” At home he questions, “Mom, does this have sugar in it?” He has even gone as far as sending back grandma’s Easter Candy and refusing to drink Sprite. Most parents would probably welcome this kind of problem… and we do… to a point. Shamefully, we have occasionally resorted to declaring borderline foods like corndogs “healthy”. Here’s where the dilemma comes. David’s favorite food is bacon. We wondered how he was going to handle learning that bacon is actually not healthy. This is a food that we couldn’t in good conscience pass off to him as “healthy.” We've tried to avoid talking about it. Today David said, “Mom, I know bacon isn’t healthy. Too much makes your heart greasy (he obviously talked to his cardiologist grandpa). A little bit is okay though. “ Phew, maybe he’s finally learning the art of moderation.
